Our second day at the Magic Kingdom and our last day at a Disney park was a full 12+ hour Disney day. It started with a ride on Walt Disney World Railroad to Frontierland, where we rode Big Thunder Mountain railroad for a second time. We flew on the Magic Carpets of Aladdin, met Aladdin and Jasmine, and visited the Enchanted Tiki Room. We took a ride through the Haunted Mansion and a ride around It’s a Small World before ending the morning on the Barnstormer roller coaster. After lunch, we learned a little American history from the Muppets, rode on Pirates of the Caribbean, learned how to be a pirate from Captain Jack Sparrow, played some more rounds of Treasures of the Seven Seas, and had a taste test between Citrus Swirl and Dole Whip. The afternoon ended with a ride on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We got on the Monorail and headed to Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where we had dinner at Chef Mickey’s and met many Disney characters. Finally, we headed back to the Magic Kingdom and ended our trip by watching the Happily Ever After fireworks show.

Our day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom was action-packed. We got to Hollywood Studios early to sign up for Jedi training. After scheduling the training, we played Toy Story Midway Mania and saw the Muppet Vision 3D show, then Evan and Wyatt went to their Jedi training session. We ate lunch while watching the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and then went across the park to see the Beauty and the Beast Stage show. After the show were rides on Star Tours, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. We stopped at a candy store and took a brief break before driving over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and heading right to the Expedition Everest roller coaster. After all that excitement, the day ended calmly with dinner and a stroll in the Pandora area of Animal Kingdom.

Our day at the Magic Kingdom was a day in the mountains: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain. We also played Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, saw the show at Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, spent some time on Tom Sawyer Island and saw part of the afternoon parade. We played a couple of rounds of the Treasures of the Seven Seas treasure hunt in Adventureland. Then everyone took a spin on the Teacups (Mad Tea Party) before heading out of the park.

We spent a day in the Clearwater area, going to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the beach, and playing mini golf. And each day in the Tampa area, we spent time visiting Abuelo and Abuela.

Evan is nine years and three months old. A lot happened in the past month. There were several major winter storms in March that caused schools to be closed, and many people in the area lost power. In Evan’s neighborhood, the lights were out for nearly 48 hours. Evan spent time playing in the new snow at home as well as skiing at Gore Mountain and Catamount. The family ski trip to the Adirondacks during part of the February break included a stop at a roller rink in Queensbury, NY called the Fun Spot. Later in the month, Evan went to a movie night with friends and a couple of ice skating birthday parties. Grandma came to visit from Wisconsin for a few days. And the St. Mary’s basketball season ended with a dinner at the school for all of St. Mary’s teams. Though the weather is still cold, Evan is starting to gear up for the coming baseball season and for a running and biking event later in the spring.s.

Wyatt is 85 months (seven years and one month) old. It was quite an eventful month. Winter returned with a vengeance, hitting the region with four major storms in the first three weeks of March. That led to some snow days in addition to the end of the Presidents’ Week vacation. The storms caused significant power outages. Power was out in Wyatt’s neighborhood for nearly 48 hours after the second storm. There was a lot of time spent playing in the snow last month, both at home and skiing at Gore Mountain and Catamount. On his birthday, Wyatt went to an indoor roller rink near Lake George, NY. Wyatt learned how to in-line skate, and he also played laser tag and on the ninja course. The Fun Spot was such a hit that the family went there again on their way back home from Gore Mountain. A few weeks after his birthday, Wyatt had an ice skating birthday party for his friends. In spite of many tumbles, fun was had by all. A highlight at school was Doctor Seuss Week, when the kids observed different theme days. Wyatt was among a select group of singers who welcomed readers from the community to school by singing a Dr. Seuss birthday song.

The Load-Out

Evan is nine years and two months old. He had a good month. Evan and his friend Owen had a combined birthday party for their friends at Grand Prix New York. The boys raced go karts and played video games. Also last month, the St. Mary’s basketball team completed the CYO season and finished with a record of 4-8. Evan went skiing at Hunter Mountain in the Catskills and Gore Mountain in the Adirondack Mountains. Pictures from that trip will be in next month’s post. At school, the third graders completed their studies of China with a day of Chinese acrobats and food and brush painting. At the School of Rock, Evan and his fellow students marked the end of the fall season with performances of the Cover Bands show at Daryl’s House and The Heights at Brother Vic’s.

Cheering For Evan

Wyatt is seven years old. Happy Birthday, Wyatt! It was a busy month. Among the highlights were attending Evan’s birthday party for his friends, a Super Bowl party, and Valentine’s Day at school. After a cold start, winter has fizzled out, but there was enough snow to get in a bit of sledding and a couple of day ski trips. Now Wyatt is enjoying winter break from school and looking forward to a long weekend of skiing. Recreational basketball in Pound Ridge continues to go well, though attendance has shrunk due to all the illnesses going around the schools.

Candle Number Nine

Evan is nine years and one month old. Last month included winter break from school, New Year’s Day, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Evan had a nice birthday. He saw ‘Star Wars’ in the afternoon and had dinner with friends in the evening. The family spent New Year’s weekend skiing at Mount Snow in Vermont. There was also a day trip to Mohawk Mountain in Connecticut. The St. Mary’s basketball team continued the CYO season and is currently a couple of games below 0.500. And Evan and Wyatt helped Granddad celebrate his birthday.
