Warming Up

Wyatt is 83 months (six years and eleven months) old. Last month included winter break from school, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Combined with some illness and snow days, Wyatt was not at school very much in the last month. Wyatt enjoyed a nice Christmas at home and with family. The family spent New Year’s weekend skiing at Mount Snow in Vermont. There was also a day trip to Mohawk Mountain in Connecticut. The instructional basketball league for first graders in Pound Ridge started in early January, and Wyatt has been doing very well with that.

Evan is nine years old. Happy birthday, Evan! Other than school and guitar practice, the last month has involved a lot of basketball and Christmas-related activities. The St. Mary’s basketball team starting playing regular season games and got off to a good start, but they have hit a rough patch the past couple of weeks. Basketball is now paused but will start back up after the school break. Evan had a nice Christmas and birthday and is enjoying his time off from school.

Wyatt is 82 months (six years and ten months) old. He had a nice month. Without sports, it was a quieter month. Wyatt went to a birthday party and a holiday party, baked and ate many cookies at school and home, and enjoyed some early season snow. Other holiday-related activities included a visit to Westchester’s Winter Wonderland, decorating the house inside and out, and a bit of Christmas shopping. Wyatt has been very aware of the date every day as he works his way through multiple Advent calendars. He is more than ready for the winter break from school, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

Evan is eight years and eleven months old. It was an active month. There were several Halloween activities, including a costume parade and party at school, a Halloween fair, and a spooky pancake breakfast. The holiday ended with a long and chilly night of trick-or-treating. Evan’s flag football team won their playoff game on the field at Fox Lane High School to finish the season in third place with a record of 5-2. After a lot of hard pre-season work, the St. Mary’s basketball team played their first regular season game, which they won handily. Finally, last week was Thanksgiving and the four day school break.

Evan is eight years and ten months old. Last month was a bit about the changing of the seasons. The weather often felt like late summer, but Evan’s schedule started to feel like fall and even winter. Evan continued with flag football but also started practices for a travel basketball team based at St. Mary’s in Katonah. The treehouse was finally completed. Evan helped throw a treehouse warming party on Columbus Day to celebrate the occasion. And with Halloween coming up, Evan picked out a pumpkin and carved a Jack O’Lantern, and he also went to the annual Halloween display and train show at Lasdon Park Arboretum.

Evan is eight years and nine months old. Evan had another busy month. Good news for Evan was that he got the cast off his arm before school started. The arm came out of the cast in fine shape. Events at the very end of summer break included a trip to Sag Harbor, a town science and engineering mini camp, and preparations for going back to school. There was also the solar eclipse and a birthday party. In September, Evan started third grade, went to the back to school picnic, and started the flag football season and tennis lessons. Evan also performed in his next School of Rock Bedford show, called “Heartland Rock,” which featured the music of Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Bob Seger, and Bruce Springsteen.

Evan is eight years and eight months old. Evan had an eventful month. The surprise of the month was that Evan’s “minor” injury at camp turned out to be a broken arm. Two weeks after the injury, Evan’s lower right arm was put in a cast. That reduced the amount of time Evan was able to spend in the water but did not otherwise slow him down. Evan finished the season at town camp then headed to Wisconsin for a family trip a few days later. On their first day in Wisconsin, the family went to the Wisconsin State Fair. At the fair, Evan went to his first rock concert (a super group of members of 80’s bands) and got to go on the stage of a sea lion show.

The next day, everyone headed north for a long weekend on a lake in central Wisconsin. Evan, Wyatt, Braeden, and Nathan enjoyed spending time outside. They went frog hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, went to a baseball game, played laser tag, and had a great time.

Earlier in the month was a camping trip to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. It was the family’s first camping trip. There were things to do at the town library, and Evan spent a week of afternoons at the Community House learning about rockets. There was also a quick trip to Sag Harbor last weekend. Pictures from that weekend will be included in next month’s post.
