From July 15-20, Wyatt joined the EA Baseball 12U team at a baseball tournament at Cooperstown All Star Village, near Oneonta, New York. For five nights, the team bunked together, similar to sleep-away camp. On arrival day, the team participated in an opening ceremony and skills contests. Wyatt was EA’s representative in the home run derby, in which he hit three homers. Over the following four days, the team played a total of eight games, including a win in their first round playoff game. Wyatt also hit a home run during one of the games and was on base more than two-thirds of his plate appearances. A total of over 90 teams participated in that week’s tournament, including quite a few teams from California and several from Canada. The team also visited Cooperstown, New York, and the Baseball Hall of Fame there. Everyone had a great time.

July was the first full month of summer vacation from school. Over the July Fourth weekend, Evan and family went to a barbecue in honor of the holiday. Evan spent a lot of time playing baseball, including a couple of games of a local tournament that was shortened due to rain. He also attended a prep baseball scouting combine. Also in the world of sports, Evan played a little golf and attended a golf day camp run by Westchester County. The camp was a total of eight hours over four days.

Wyatt enjoyed a relatively leisurely month of July after a busy school year. He visited with friends at a barbecue on Independence Day weekend. He spent some time golfing, including at a golf day camp run by Westchester County that was a quick two hours per day for four days. Much of Wyatt’s focus in July was on baseball. He played some Greater Hudson Valley league games with his team, EA Baseball, but the big event of the month was a baseball tournament at Cooperstown All Star Village, near Oneonta, New York. There were a lot of great pictures from that event, which can be seen in a separate post.

Evan had a lot going on in June. At the beginning of the month, almost the entire eighth grade class from Fox Lane Middle School went on a quick, overnight bus trip to Washington, D.C. Shortly after that was the eighth grade dance. Evan played in a concert with the middle school Rock Ensemble, he played travel baseball with Game On Fury, and he played some golf with friends and family. Later in the month, he graduated from Fox Lane Middle School, enjoying a nice moving up ceremony and a late lunch with family after the ceremony. Near the end of the month, he attended a short football camp at Iona Prep.

Wyatt had a busy month in June. He played drums with School of Rock Bedford in an all David Bowie show, the second of two performances, the first of which was in May. He played trumpet in the final middle school band concert of the school year. He played quite a bit of baseball with EA Baseball, including at a tournament at The Rock. The school year ended on the last Friday of June, leaving Wyatt to look forward to a summer of rest, relaxation, and more baseball.

Evan had a fun May. The Fox Lane freshman baseball team wrapped up their season. Though it was a challenging season, the players worked hard, learned, and improved as the season went along. One school day, Fox Lane Middle School students participated in “Almost Anything Goes,” a competition between the three school houses.

The highlight of the month was a five-day trip to Orlando, Florida with the Fox Lane Middle School rock ensemble. They performed at Sea World and recorded at a studio at Walt Disney World. When not making music, the students spent time having fun at Sea World as well as three of the Disney parks.

Wyatt had a fairly busy month of May. There was spring modified hockey, Bedford Hills Katonah Little League and EA Baseball travel baseball. He went on a charter fishing trip on Long Island Sound and caught a striped bass. All of the middle school students participated in “Almost Anything Goes,” a competition between the three school houses. Wyatt also played drums with School of Rock Bedford in an all David Bowie show. It was the first of two performances, the second of which was scheduled for early June.

Evan did a variety of things in April. Though there were a few rainouts, the Fox Lane freshman baseball team started playing games. Early in the month, school was closed for Spring Break. The break was mostly uneventful, but Evan and Wyatt did spend a day enjoying rare April skiing at Mount Snow in Vermont. At the end of the break week, everyone celebrated Easter and Mom’s birthday. Once school reopened, the long countdown to the end of the school year began.

Wyatt continued to be a two sport athlete in the month of April. The spring modified hockey season continued, and the Bedford Hills Katonah Little League and travel baseball seasons began. Away from the diamond, Wyatt went on a sixth grade field trip to the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey. He played his trumpet at a solo music festival hosted by the New York State School Music Association. He received a nearly perfect score for his performance. He also went fishing and celebrated a friend’s birthday.

March was a transitional month. Indoor baseball practices continued. The Fox Lane Baseball Boosters held a season kick-off dinner, looking forward to the start of the high school baseball season, with thoughts of outdoor practices and games. The fickle weather took a cool turn, offering some late season snow. Even tried a bit of at-home skiing in the yard. Early in the month, the Fox Lane Sports Boosters held a district-wide dodgeball tournament as a fundraiser. Evan’s team, comprised of baseball players, won the middle school division of the tournament. Evan’s academic success continued, including winning an award in math class.
