Cool cat

Evan turned 15 months old on March 26. He is 32 inches tall and weighs 25 pounds. He is walking very well now and is starting to run as well. With the unseasonably warm weather in the Northeast for the past couple of weeks, Evan has been able to spend quite a bit of time outdoors. He is getting to know the playgrounds in the parks in Manhattan as well as Bedford Hills. He is not really sure about walking in the grass yet, but he enjoys sitting on the ground and picking up rocks, sticks, grass, etc. Evan is still working on speaking, but he has a solid grasp of the word “ball.” He has discovered that there are some foods he likes more than others, which makes things tricky for Mom and Dad and everyone else at meal times.

Playing in the snow

Evan turned 14 months old on February 26. He, Mom, and Dad were at Smuggler’s Notch ski area in northern Vermont, near Mount Mansfield and Stowe. It was a long ride up and back, but everyone had a great time. Evan enjoyed the excellent day care facilities while Mom and Dad skied during the day, and all enjoyed the snow after the lifts closed in the evening. Evan liked eating dinner out at the restaurants in and near Smuggler’s Notch.

Other than the ski trip, the big news this month is that Evan is walking. He regularly takes a dozen steps at a time and occasionally takes 20 or more. He improved his walking a lot while he was in Vermont, and now is able to get across the rooms at home.

Mom and Dad took Evan ice skating on the pond in Bedford Hills Memorial Park last month. They shot several videos, and clips from those are edited together in one video that is on the top of the video gallery page.

Standing up

Evan was 13 months old on January 26, 2010. He celebrated by spending a few days with his Grandma Peterson, who was visiting from Wisconsin. Although it has been a moderately cold winter in the Northeast, Evan enjoyed several outdoor activities during the month of January, including ice skating with Mom and Dad on the pond in Bedford Hills Park, sledding on the hills around his house, and seeing the sites in Midtown Manhattan.

Evan has battled a slight cold for the past couple of weeks, but he is otherwise in good health and very good spirits. He has taken a few tentative steps but is not quite walking yet. It probably will not be long now. He enjoys racing around the house on his hands and knees and playing with his toys in nearly every room.

Birthday Card

Since Mom and Dad had to work on Evan’s birthday, we all had an additional birthday celebration a few days later. Evan enjoyed opening more presents and ate some birthday banana bread. Evan now has enough new toys to make it through the winter, at least. And he will be the best dressed baby on the block.

Helping with the laundry

Evan turned one year old on December 26. It has been a very busy and exciting month for Evan, Mom, and Dad. Evan continued to do a lot of traveling, including spending a lot of time with Nonna and Granddad. After the first major snow of the season the week before Christmas, Evan went sledding with Nonna and also at home in his front yard. He celebrated his first Christmas the day before his birthday.

Some pictures from Christmas can be seen on the separate Christmas post. Other photos from the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas are in this photo gallery.

Family portrait

This was Evan’s first Christmas. He had a great time. In spite of his love of tearing paper, Evan seemed a little reluctant to rip the wrapping paper off his gifts. But with some help from Mom and Dad and some time out to play with each gift, Evan made it through his big pile of gifts. Evan thanks everyone for all the wonderful gifts and is enjoying playing with all his new toys.

In the attached gallery are just a few of the many pictures of Evan’s first Christmas. There are pictures from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Since he was with some family members, Evan also got an early start to his birthday celebrations on Christmas Eve.

Thanksgiving

Evan turned 11 months old on Thanksgiving. He weighs 20 pounds 5 ounces and is 30 inches long. Evan’s travel schedule was not quite as heavy this month, but his social calendar was still very full. On Thanksgiving, Evan ate a whole meal of “adult” food, including turkey, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin soup. He enjoyed it very much.

Evan has been working on climbing the stairs, and now makes it look easy. He currently can only go up the stairs. He also keeps working on his scooting. His favorite new skill is putting things in and taking them out of various receptacles, including pails and trash cans. Mom and dad have had to stop putting trash in most of the trash cans around the house.

And Evan’s first birthday is now less than a month away. Check back here in a few weeks for news and pictures of the birthday boy.

Some pictures from this month are included in the attached gallery.
